Personal gain gets people on their feet. Or the threat of loss. It won’t work any other way, they say.
If I let people live in a lonely, meaningless material environment, then I guess that’s true. What else would they have to strive for? Than for the nothing in nothing, which at least makes them believe it is something.
If people were allowed to live their inner greatness, their humanity, their Divine Spark, instead of keeping them permanently in fear, then they would act out of the inner knowledge of meaning. And they could then be whole human beings and not just monkeys trained with sugar and whips.
