The physical appearance of life is on a certain level in the middle. It is limited externally. The processes within run on a limited, non-destructive scale. They carry each other. It accumulates space for itself. And it accumulates energy for self-preservation.
It is only in the case of man that the incomplete knowledge of eternity and death and the panic that arises from this leads to a destructive overbalance. He tries to accumulate all the energy that is available in order to maintain his self – in vain, and he still knows that! – for all eternity. And the more he is in this imbalance, the further he moves away from the true and wholesome knowledge of eternity and death.
