The meaning in management

I now hear more frequently that the young generation of managers is no longer striving for money and power, but is looking for meaning in their work. That sounds very encouraging and nice at first. But I think that what I would find in the „meaning“ drawers of these young managers would no longer seem so encouraging and beautiful. Calling the drawer „meaning“ but then not finding true meaning to be able to put it in the drawer: That is sad. And „meaning“, which is found in the capitalist, material production and service process – probably still in connection with human capital – does not deserve this name, in my opinion. It is again a „word trick“ of the mind to keep the young managers at work and make them believe that this is the sense they meant. They will believe it. And then think they know it. And they won’t doubt. And do their mind job.

So the content of the drawers is also always subject to a „zeitgeist“. Or someone who consciously creates this zeitgeist. There is a nice little poem by Ingeborg Bachmann about this. Browse through a book of poems by her. Maybe you will find it. If it is meant to be.

Pain must never be allowed to guide us. Our actions grow out of the fearless knowledge of our security in the meaning, of our soulfulness and of the eternal unity of everything. We always act in love for everything and everyone. There is no inner separation. Pain alone must never guide us.
