Why then do we need commandments that lead us from the material to the spiritual? Why does man seem to have such a tendency to focus on his physicality, to drift from the narrow ridge of the middle again and again and further and further to the right into the wasteland of separation?
But is it not so that the material is only a manifestation of the spiritual, the limited only a manifestation of the infinite, the mortal only a manifestation of the eternal and the separated only a manifestation of unity? Isn’t the material also sheltered in its soulish substance? Does it then perhaps only appear to us that we tend so much to the material? Even at the very edge of the lonely wasteland, we are still in the realm of creation, still walking the paths whose substance and root is the soul. Is it a fallacy, a mirage that forms in our consciousness that makes us think we are irredeemably trapped in separation, when in fact, no matter where we are, we are always sheltered in the soulish?
