Those who lived „godlessly“ were at a disadvantage yet in ancient times, unless they relied on material force. Just like today, where the enforcement of interests only takes place in such a way. Only it can also be seen that this method creates nothing lasting and always comes sometime to its end. Violence is the short-term solution. Mental force is the permanent one.
Societies that forgot their close ties with God because they had gained material prosperity through trade and earthly power through wars declined again. Many of them tried to prevent this decline by shedding rivers of blood to make the gods merciful again. But it is not the amount of blood, not the size of the sacrifice that matters. It is the pure and humble heart with which the offering is brought. „Thy will be done!“. And then a single seed is enough….
To be in possession of all things, to have power over the whole world in his hands, and yet to be truly humble before God, knowing that this is the only reason for his grace in giving us everything. In this way, permanence can be realized. And it can be understood in such a way the sense in it, if everything passes again, because everything must pass again, if it has reached its time. This, too, can then be accepted without wanting to prevent the inevitable by streams of blood.
