If you give a frightened animal security, its fear goes and it comes back to its natural balanced state.
If one gives security to a frightened person, then it can happen that the fear is replaced by hate – the desire for violence – or by an exaggeration of the ego, which lacks any humility and any measure.
Why is that?
If a person is in fear, then he is deeply trapped in his material perception. The soul knowledge is missing to him to a large extent. If we bring him in security, then this is only a material security, which affects only his material perception. Man in material perception always has the pain of separation and a high degree of fear. If he is afraid, then he is in survival mode. In the fighting mode. So if we give him only material security, then we do not take away his fear, but we only give him a resource with which he can strengthen his ego again. Be it to instinctively plan a counter-attack against the cause of the fear or to strive for superiority, separation and power in his environment without any reason – and just as instinctively – with his mind that is strengthened again and feels independent and operational again. Material security, therefore, does not change the existence of fear and its consequences. It only serves the recovery of the ego, which is then enabled to effectively defend itself again against everything and everyone. Out of fear. Out of pain. Out of loneliness.
The animal has no mind that would keep it in permanent alarm mode. If the situation is safe, then the acute weapons of survival instinct go to rest. The animal is back in the center. It has no mind that would prevent it from doing so. It is different with humans. If the situation is safe, then the mind would also have to step back and make room. But this does not happen and so the security becomes a resource which is actively used by the mind to sharpen its claws anew or to use the opportunity directly to consolidate its position in the seemingly perpetual struggle for survival. Man does not reach the center, but remains almost completely in the material perception despite security.
That is why it is not enough to bring the frightened person to safety. The pendulum of his consciousness must be shifted in the direction of soul knowledge so that safety can become the resting place it should be. Soul knowledge means less mind, less fear, less pain, less struggle. Only then can security be fruitful.
