But the pleasure?! Of food and drink. What about that? Those are completely different spheres. Far removed from the struggle with mortality. That’s what elevates us. This is culture!
Preparing something and enjoying it creates the illusion of control. Control over the death that hovers over everything. It is the self-deception and the distraction of man, who thinks he never has to die and can create his own paradise with his own actions. That is why the basis here is also: the fear of death.
He who does not have this fear does not have the urge to lose himself in earthly pleasures. He perhaps enjoys what nature gives him. He then enjoys this in quiet joy, deep humility and gratitude.
