The human race does not have the capacity for self-restraint. Was once said in a documentary about the destruction of the world by human beings.
That is not true. Man certainly has this ability. We can still see it in the primitive peoples. It is only the spirit of the times that makes the difference. The primitive peoples know about the whole and subordinate themselves to it. Modern man knows only himself and subordinates everything else to it. The whole is all-embracing and perfect. The human being is lonely, short-sighted, one-sided and fallible… To whom would it be better to subordinate oneself? Even or especially if it means recognizing one’s own mortality and one’s own small – but important – role in the whole.
