The symptoms that are named by science as belonging to a depression are ultimately rooted in the affected person’s no longer existing ability to compensate for the pain of material existence and to bear its meaninglessness. The illness of these people is that they can no longer walk through the forest whistling like everyone else. Their pain becomes visible. The cure lies in reducing the pain. And this cannot be done by learning to whistle again. It can only be done by flooding the forest with light.
