Conscience arises when the consciousness relates the ego’s pain to the soul’s knowledge of oneness.
So the fact that I do not kill, torture, cheat and lie is not because of my mind, for all this comes from it alone. The mind in its pure form is separation in its pure form. Only the knowledge of the unity of everything prevents our consciousness from completely following the ego and thus the path of separation.
If man has no access to his soul information, then he also has no conscience. If he has no conscience, then his consciousness goes the way of the ego, the way of pain and separation. This person cannot be helped by „talking into his conscience“, nor does influence on the soul level help. Punishments were developed for him, because only the threat of separation and pain keep him from acting unconscionably. Punishments only fight the symptom, because through them man does not get back his conscience. Punishments appeal to the survival instinct, whose tool is the mind. Matter against matter.
Man without spiritual access either acts out of fear in conformity with the laws or he acts conscienceless in secret. We recognize his true nature only when he is fearless, because he determines law and punishment himself. Then we see Hitler, Stalin, Saddam Hussein in their rage. This consciencelessness and the impossibility to gain an understanding access has always frightened people abysmally at the evil.
