„There are, after all, persons who believe that man can experience his destiny only under the influence of mind-expanding agents. How do you see that?“ A question that had been asked to me once in a round of talks on the question of „one’s own destiny“. I answered as follows: „In my opinion, this is not right. If we go to our center and withdraw from the extremes, if we allow our destiny to be fulfilled and do not take too much influence on our path with our mind’s ideas about right and wrong, then we will follow our destiny. From Alone. If someone goes off, who is not in this center – the position of the resting pendulum – or at least near it, travels to Peru or Bolivia and takes part in an Ayahuasca ceremony there, for example, he will not find anything there that will make him grow sustainably. Because the decision for this act was made over the mind. The drug as a means to do something about it. To act. To accelerate the natural course. To decide that the realization is now „up to it.“ To get „results“ and satisfy ….curiosity. Curiosity about what finally will be one’s own destiny. ‚ Come hell or high water and if I have to travel to the end of the world and take all the drugs in the world: I want to know it now! It’s my turn. ‚
He who is in his center has no curiosity in the conventional sense. His destiny will be fulfilled. Either way. What should he concern himself with? If he does get up one day, travel to Bolivia and take ayahuasca there, it will be in complete clarity and emptiness. As if he were to open his umbrella when it rains. A necessity whose cause is beyond his control. The ceremony is not to experience something or to satisfy a curiosity, but is a part of his destiny. What happens there happens. The only thing he realized was that this step is a necessary piece of the mosaic in the completion of his path. And so he fully accepts and surrenders. What happens then is what happens. The indigenous people of the rainforest who take ayahuasca live in the center. Their world is full of the good spirits, the evil spirits, the gods, this world and the world beyond. They just call it intoxication. Not trance or anything. Just „intoxication.“ And in this „intoxication“ they are in contact with the otherworldly forces. „Everything that happens has a reason,“ they say. Whoever has not in one way or another attained the center of his physical and spiritual existence, even the most consciousness-expanding means will be of no use. The ground must first be prepared. Then I can try to let sensitive plants grow there. And whoever has a garden knows that the soil needs its time to cook and that artificial fertilizer has only a short-term effect and harms the soil more than it helps.“
