When I look at you, my ego sees only separation. It sees tall and short, fat and thin, smart and stupid, man and woman, blond and brown. And it sees: I want! and I don‚t want! In the first case it thinks further: How do I get it? How do I tie it tightly to me so that it can’t leave? In the latter case it thinks: How do I get rid of it, so that it does not become dangerous for me or stands in the way? The lonely ego makes plans to unite with itself what is separated from it in its eyes or to completely separate what is separated from itself. It does not know that everything separated is already one and therefore binding is unnecessary and separating is impossible.
When I look at You, my soul sees itself and rejoices in infinite and eternal love in the presence of the One who manifests Himself in You and in everything.
If my consciousness looks at you, it sees the apparent separation and it sees the non-separation. It sees the unity and apparent non-unity. It knows about the soul substance of everything and is full of silent joy.
