Since society knows no inner unity, an outer unity must be built. And since this is an external one and it is a situation of fear, it is enforced with uncompromising violence against those who think differently.
Whoever feels this unity becomes quite queasy, because there is nothing in it but the demand on the individual to be silent and to follow a single view. It is dead unity.
You don’t need people for that. Stones are enough. No democracy. A dictator is enough for that. It doesn’t need citizens. All it takes is a flock of sheep….
A unity that is not based on trust and integration, but on steel-hard opinion and the enforcement of this with all available means and all available power and harshness…. Putinism somehow… So absurd. So self-deluded.
A society in which thinking has been abolished and people are directed in the desired direction with sugar-sweet or bile-bitter canned emotions…. No one needs connections any more, as long as one can believe oneself to be on the simple, morally good side. – And the other must then inevitably be the evil to be eradicated. The American Western of the 50s with its good guys and bad guys: it is the model for the world view implanted in people. So simple. So simple to grasp, it seems.
If the leaders manipulate the citizens, then the system is completely defective, because democracy lives on the citizens and on trust.
